Settled in for a visit at Meridian, Mississippi after a couple days of early morning departures (3AM wake up call yesterday!) and a long drive across the state of Texas. At least we have Buccees!

One of the early morning stops was to drop off some tulip species for my friends at the Dallas Arboretum.

All of their faces were dark with a little light here and there from the offices, so I really didn't get to see them, but I recognized their voices in the morning darkness.

Every year the Dallas Arboretum does a big celebration called Dallas Blooms with all of the tulips they currently plant.

These are some of the tulips being staged for the Arboretum.

The gardens and grounds of Samares Manor on Jersey Island is another of the stops on our upcoming trip to England. The Manor itself is shown below:

Also on the Manor grounds is this Colombier (French for "a building for pigeons") or "Dovecote". It was built in the 16th century during a time when doves or pigeons were kept by wealthy noblemen as a source of meat and eggs.

Known in Louisiana as a "pigeonnier", the round structure contains many "boulins" or pigeonholes where pairs of birds build their roost. Here is how it appears on the inside, from a pigeon's perspective:
