Beautiful white petals with large yellow cups. An old friend once told me that 'Ice Follies' looks good by itself, and so does 'Carlton' but when you put the two together you get the show of a lifetime. That person was right. 'Ice Follies' is one of the most well known and recognized Narcissus on the market, and we are thankful that this bi-colored bloomer will do so well for most parts of the South.
The Narcissus 'Ice Follies' looks great by itself, but it is amazing when planted together with the 'Carlton'.
Depending on when a picture of the 'Ice Follies' bloom was taken, you may think that you are looking at different varieties. You are not. The frilly cup starts off a bright yellow that fades as it ages. This particular bloom adds a depth, beauty, and uniqueness to your garden and as a cut flower indoors.
The purple of the Grape Hyacinth and the yellows of the 'Carlton' and 'Ice Follies' really draw your eye to an area. Consider planting all three together as a dramatic March display of color.
Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the size of the bulb (so if the bulb is 1 inch long, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
